Are annual full-body checkup packages worth it?
Answered by the AskDoc Medical Team · Medically reviewed under our Medical Director, MBBS
The glossy packages oversell: whole-body scans and forty-test panels in symptomless people mostly find harmless quirks that trigger anxiety and follow-up cascades, while missing the point of screening.
What actually earns its keep is targeted: blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes screening from 35, cancer screenings by age and history, and a conversation about smoking, alcohol, weight and mood. Cheap, boring, proven.
Money saved on the package buys years of the tests that matter. Build the right list for your age and risks, then repeat it on schedule rather than shotgunning annually.
