Why am I nauseous every morning?

Answered by the AskDoc Medical Team · Medically reviewed under our Medical Director, MBBS

Beyond early pregnancy, which is always worth ruling out first when possible, common causes include overnight reflux, anxiety peaking with morning stress hormones, blood sugar dips, post-nasal drip, alcohol the evening before, and some medicines taken on an empty stomach.

A practical experiment: a plain cracker before rising, medicines after food where allowed, and earlier lighter dinners for a week.

Morning nausea persisting beyond a couple of weeks, or with weight loss, headaches or vomiting, moves from experiment to examination.
