Does cinnamon lower blood sugar?
Answered by the AskDoc Medical Team · Medically reviewed under our Medical Director, MBBS
Studies are mixed: some show small drops in fasting sugar, others none. At best the effect is modest, nothing close to medicines or the big lifestyle levers.
Culinary amounts are safe to enjoy. Large supplement doses of cassia cinnamon carry a compound that can stress the liver, so more is not better.
Enjoy it on food, skip the capsules, and put your effort where the evidence is: meals, movement, sleep and prescribed treatment.
