Why is my face always red or flushing?

Answered by the AskDoc Medical Team · Medically reviewed under our Medical Director, MBBS

Persistent central-face redness with easy flushing to heat, alcohol, spice, sun or stress is typically rosacea, a common and manageable skin condition, sometimes with acne-like bumps or gritty eyes.

Triggers are personal; a two week diary usually exposes yours. Daily sunscreen, gentle skincare and avoiding your triggers form the base, and prescription creams plus other treatments control bumps and background redness well.

Sudden flushing with palpitations, diarrhea or wheezing is a different, rarer story for a doctor. But ordinary progressive facial redness deserves treatment, not resignation; untreated rosacea tends to advance.
